Why Donate to Warragul Mosque?

There is no mosque within 45km of Warragul. Your donation helps BINAI build a permanent home for prayer, education, and community in Baw Baw Shire.

Warragul Mosque - BINAI·

Donating to a charity always raises a fair question: why this one?

There are thousands of worthy causes. So here is an honest answer to why Warragul Mosque deserves your support, what your money actually does, and why this project matters beyond the Muslim community alone.

The Problem Is Real and Specific

There is no permanent mosque within 45 kilometres of Warragul. For the 250+ Muslim residents of Baw Baw Shire, that has meant years of driving to Morwell or Cranbourne for Friday prayers, missing Eid celebrations, and raising children without a local place to learn their faith.

This is not a problem that exists in Melbourne or Sydney. Those cities have dozens of mosques. But regional Victoria is a different story, and Warragul has been a gap on the map for a long time.

BINAI is fixing that. And they are doing it properly, with full financial transparency, ACNC registration, and a community-first approach.

Where Your Money Goes

Every dollar donated to BINAI goes toward one goal: building a permanent mosque facility in Warragul.

The current premises at 72 Victoria Street are leased. The long-term plan is to purchase land and construct a purpose-built mosque with:

  • A permanent prayer hall large enough for the growing Friday congregation
  • Proper wudu (ablution) facilities for men and women
  • Classrooms for Quran education, Arabic classes, and youth programs
  • A community hall for iftaar dinners, school visits, and interfaith events

The fundraising target is $800,000. No money is distributed to members. No salaries are paid from donations. BINAI is run entirely by volunteers, and all funds must be used for community purposes under Victorian incorporated association law.

What Has Already Been Done

BINAI has a track record. Before asking for the next step, here is what the community has already delivered on modest resources:

  • Weekly Jummah prayer running since December 2024, with 200+ worshippers every Friday
  • Quran classes for children every Sunday
  • Community Open Days in 2025 and 2026 welcoming over 1,000 neighbours
  • School interfaith visits from St Joseph's Primary and St Paul's Anglican Grammar
  • Eid celebrations with 300+ attendees
  • Full Taraweeh prayers through Ramadan, including the first Khatam completion in 2026
  • A leased and fitted-out prayer space in the heart of Warragul

This is a community that delivers. Donating here is not funding a dream. It is funding the next chapter of something already happening.

This Is Not Just for Muslims

The mosque has been used by the whole community. School groups, local leaders, and neighbours of all backgrounds have walked through the doors. The Community Open Days were exactly that: open to everyone.

A permanent mosque in Warragul means a permanent venue for interfaith dialogue, community events, and public education about Islam. That is good for the whole shire, not just for Muslim families.

When Baw Baw Shire Council lists you in their community directory, when ABC News covers your story, when 1,000 neighbours show up to your open day, that tells you something about how this project is seen in the wider community.

One More Thing

This mosque was not built by wealthy donors or government grants. It was built by a group of ordinary families who were tired of having nowhere to pray in their own town, and who decided to do something about it.

If that story resonates with you, your donation belongs here.
