The process
As soon as possible after a death occurs, call 0457 643 672. We'll walk you through the next steps and coordinate with the hospital, GP, or coroner as needed.
We arrange ghusl (the ritual washing) with trained brothers or sisters. Simple white kafan (shroud) is provided.
The funeral prayer is held at Warragul Mosque before the body travels to the cemetery. Usually the same day or the day after the death, Sunnah permitting.
Gippsland Muslim families typically use Warragul Cemetery (Muslim section) or one of the Melbourne Muslim cemeteries. We help with paperwork and a plot.
After the burial we stay in touch. We organise dua gatherings, meal trains, and pastoral visits for grieving families.
Fiqh & practicalities
BINAI does not charge for coordinating a janazah. External costs (cemetery plot, funeral director, transport) are paid directly by the family — we will help you understand typical pricing and financial assistance pathways.
Janazah is performed only for Muslims. We're still happy to speak with non-Muslim families about what to expect if a Muslim relative has passed, and to guide you.
We can coordinate with established Melbourne mosques and Muslim funeral directors. Burial can take place in a Melbourne Muslim cemetery or at Warragul Cemetery, whichever the family prefers.
At Warragul Mosque, women are welcome at the salat al-janazah and at graveside. Classical opinions differ on women attending the cemetery itself — we respect each family's chosen practice.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon
May Allah have mercy on those who have passed, and comfort those they have left behind.
